The operator named in the Imprint above is the controller responsible for your data, regardless of where in the world you use Liquid from. For any privacy-related question or to exercise your rights, contact us at privacy@liquidapp.wtf.
We are not currently required to, and have not, appointed a Data Protection Officer under Art. 37 GDPR / § 38 BDSG. Should this change, we will update this notice with their contact details.
We process the following categories of personal data to provide, secure, and improve Liquid:
Account data (email, username, date of birth) — to create and manage your account, verify your age, and enable login. Providing this data is necessary to enter into and perform the contract with you; without it, we cannot create an account for you. Legal basis: contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Usage data (in-app activity, content you post or interact with, AI-companion conversation data, chat messages) — to operate core features, personalize your experience, and improve the service. Legal basis: contract performance and legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(b), (f) GDPR).
Technical data (IP address, device identifiers, log data) — to secure the service, prevent abuse, and diagnose technical issues. Legal basis: legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Device permissions data (camera, photo library, push notifications, and — only if you grant them — contacts or location) — processed only for the specific feature you use them for (e.g. camera/photos to share in chat, push to notify you of activity, contacts only if you choose to find friends this way). You can grant or revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings; declining them only limits the related feature. Legal basis: consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) as expressed through your device permission grant.
Data based on your separate consent (e.g. optional analytics, marketing communications) — only processed where you have actively opted in. Legal basis: consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), revocable at any time with effect for the future.
We use third-party processors under data processing agreements to help run Liquid — for example, cloud hosting/infrastructure and backend services (such as Firebase/Google Cloud), and, where enabled, analytics or crash-reporting tools. These providers may only process data on our instructions and for our purposes. A current, detailed list of processors is available on request at privacy@liquidapp.wtf.
Some processors are located outside the EU/EEA (e.g. in the USA). Where this is the case, we rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (where the recipient is certified) or on Standard Contractual Clauses together with additional safeguards.
Features such as the AI companion or personalized content feeds may use automated processing to tailor what you see. We do not use this to make decisions that produce legal effects or similarly significantly affect you without human involvement (Art. 22 GDPR).
We keep personal data only for as long as needed for the purposes above, or as required by law (e.g. statutory commercial/tax retention periods). Account data is generally deleted within a reasonable period after you delete your account, unless we are legally required to retain it longer.
We use appropriate technical and organizational measures (e.g. encryption in transit, access controls) to protect your data against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse (Art. 32 GDPR).
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, and restrict the processing of your data, to data portability, and to object at any time to processing based on legitimate interest or for direct marketing purposes. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal. You can lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — for us, the competent authority is the Hamburgische Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit (HmbBfDI), datenschutz-hamburg.de.
We apply the GDPR standard described above to all users worldwide as our baseline. Depending on where you live, you may have additional or slightly different rights:
If you are located in the UK, we process your data under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 rather than the EU GDPR, with equivalent rights as described above. You can lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), ico.org.uk. As Liquid is likely to be accessed by children, we have regard to the UK Age Appropriate Design Code in how we design default settings, data minimization, and profiling for younger users.
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (we do not sell personal information, and do not knowingly share it for cross-context behavioral advertising). To exercise these rights, contact privacy@liquidapp.wtf.
Liquid is intended for users aged 16 and up. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13, as defined by COPPA. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, we will delete it and terminate the associated account. If you believe a child under 13 is using Liquid, please contact whatsup@liquidapp.wtf.
Wherever you access Liquid from, you can always exercise the rights described in "Your rights" above by contacting privacy@liquidapp.wtf, and we will apply the protections required by your local law in addition to the baseline above.
This applies both to cookies on our website and to comparable technologies in the Liquid app (e.g. SDKs, local storage, mobile identifiers). We use strictly necessary technologies to operate core functionality (e.g. login sessions, security). Any non-essential cookies, SDKs, or tracking technologies (e.g. analytics) are only activated after you give active, informed consent via our consent banner or in-app settings, in line with § 25 TDDDG (and, for users outside the EU, the equivalent consent standard applicable in your region). You can withdraw or adjust your consent at any time via the settings link in the app or website footer, and doing so will not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
Liquid is accessible to users from age 16, who remain minors under German law. In line with § 24a JuSchG and Art. 28 DSA, we provide a reporting and remedy procedure with a user interface suitable for minors, so that users — in particular minors — can report chat messages, contacts, or behavior that affects their personal integrity (e.g. harassment, unwanted contact, inappropriate content). Reports are reviewed without undue delay, and the reporting user is informed that their report may be shared with the reported user without revealing the reporter's identity.
Reports concerning the safety or wellbeing of a minor can be sent to whatsup@liquidapp.wtf and will be prioritized for review. Users can also block or mute other users directly within the chat.
Liquid includes an AI-powered companion feature. In line with Article 50 of the EU AI Act, we inform you here that any content, replies, or interactions from this feature are generated by an artificial intelligence system, not a human. The AI companion is intended for entertainment purposes only; it does not provide professional, medical, legal, or financial advice, and its outputs should not be relied upon as such.
You must be at least 16 years old, or meet the minimum age for consenting to data processing in your country, to create an account and use Liquid.
You agree not to use Liquid unlawfully, to share content that is illegal, harmful, or infringes third-party rights, to harass or endanger other users, or to use bots or automated means to access the service.
You retain ownership of the content you create. By sending or sharing content on Liquid (including in chat), you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, store, reproduce, and display that content solely for the purpose of operating and providing the service to you and other users.
If you believe content, an account, or behavior on Liquid violates the law or these terms, you can report it via whatsup@liquidapp.wtf. We will review reports without undue delay and take appropriate action, which may include removing content or restricting accounts. Both the reporting user and the affected user may request review of a decision made against them.
Liquid does not currently offer any paid features, subscriptions, or in-app purchases. Should we introduce any in the future, this section will be updated with pricing, billing terms, and any statutory withdrawal or cancellation rights applicable in your country (e.g. the German Widerrufsrecht for EU consumers).
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. You may delete your account at any time.
The service is provided "as is," without warranties beyond those required by law. We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body, or health, and under mandatory statutory provisions (e.g. product liability); liability for ordinary negligence is limited to foreseeable, contract-typical damage. We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages except where required by law. Nothing in this section limits any liability that cannot be limited under the mandatory law of your country of residence.
We may update these terms to reflect legal, technical, or feature changes. We will notify you of any material change in advance and give you a reasonable period to object; if you do not object within that period, and we have clearly informed you of this consequence in the notice, the change takes effect, unless it affects the core features of the service, in which case we will ask for your active consent.
If any provision of these terms is or becomes invalid, this does not affect the validity of the remaining provisions.
These terms are provided in English and German. In case of discrepancy, the German version prevails.
These terms are governed by German law, excluding its conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer and live outside Germany, this choice of law does not deprive you of the protection afforded by mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence, and you may also bring proceedings in the courts of your own country where applicable law grants you that right.
